Okavango Delta (Botswana)

The Paradise Garden of Africa, the Okavango Delta, is a region in Northern Botswana and with its 17,000 square kilometer area, it is one of the largest inner deltas in the world (sometimes referred to as the largest).  It was declared as one of the 7 Natural Wonders of Africa in 2013.  When Lake Makgadikgadi dried thousands of years ago, the Okavango Delta was formed here.  This delta formation, consisting of lakes, lagoons and islands, caused the Okavango River to drain its waters into the Kalahari Desert plains.  This has created enormous biodiversity in this region and has naturally become an attractive location for all kinds of wildlife.  Elephants, lions, leopards, slats and crocodiles can settle here.  For those who want to spend money, staying at the camp in the delta is an option.  You can also consider staying near Maun and travel from there.
