Great Barrier Reef (Coral Sea, Australia)
The Great Barrier Reef is the world's largest reef system, consisting of 2,900 reefs and 900 islands, spread over a width of 2,600 km, with an area of 344,400 km². The reef is in the Coral Sea off the coast of Queensland in north east Australia.
Geology and Geography
The Great Barrier Reef covers an area of about 340,000 km², in the form of mountains in the east of Australia's east coast to the south. So it can even be seen from space. Today, The Great Barrier is protected by a community called Reef Marine. It is in danger due to global warming. Greenpeace hung a giant banner on the Eiffel Tower.
Ecology
The Great Barrier Reef has its own unique diversity of life. Many whales, such as mink whales, humpback whales and blue whales, and many species of endangered marine mammals such as abundant dugong, 6 kinds of sea turtles, and lots of fish, coral, shark, stingray, jellyfish ... etc, all spontaneously in the Great Barrier Reef it is grown.
threats
The Great Barrier Reef is an important place for fishing as well as tourism. Unauthorized fishing is threatening natural life.
