Salar de Uyuni (Potosi, Bolivia)

Salar de Uyuni is one of the largest salt lakes in the world, with an area of 10,582 km².  It is located in the southwest of Bolivia, at an altitude of 3.653 m and is considered the culmination of the Altiplano Plateau in terms of nature along with Lake Titikaka.  Its bright daytime light is more like a lake with hard frost at night and more like ice-cold lake.  However, it is coarse salt crystals, not ice creaking under the feet when walking.

Salt capacity of Salar de Uyuni is estimated to be approximately 10 billion tons.  25,000 tons of this is removed and transported to cities.  Along with the lagoons further south, the lake is an important habitat for the South American Flamingos.
